2-casino bill passes Senate

STATE HOUSE WITH
SOME OF THE
MORE BREAKING DETAILS.
REPORTER: TOM, IT’S A BRISK
DAY
AT THE STATE HOUSE AND THE
SENATE MOVED BRISKLY TO APPROVE
THAT TWO LICENSE BILL
WITHIN THE
LAST 15 MINUTES.
SENATE BILL 113 PROVIDES FOR TWO
HIGHLY REGULATED CASINOS HERE IN
NEW HAMPSHIRE.
ONE LIKELY DOWN IN SALEM, THE
OTHER ONE KIND OF UP FOR OPTIONS
IN POTENTIALLY THE NORTH COUNTRY
OR LOUDON.
AS
THIS BILL HEADS TO THE HOUSE,
THAT’S WHERE A LOT OF THE GAMING
LOBBY IS OPTIMISTIC THAT THEY
CAN
PEEL OFF A FEW ARE THE MORE
TRADITIONALLY SKEPTICAL HOUSE
MEMBERS BY
CONVINCING THEM THAT
A CASINO IS A GOOD IDEA.
SOME OF THE OTHER REPS AROUND
THE STATE HAVE
BEEN SKEPTICAL OF
JUST A ONE-CASINO BILL.
THERE WERE SOME QUESTIONS ABOUT
HOW MUCH SUPPORT THE BILL WOULD
HAVE.
THERE WAS A LOT OF
TURN OVER, SO
THE GAMING LOBBY WAS AGAIN
INTERESTED TO SEE HOW THE
SENATORS WOULD VOTE, IN THE END
A
13-11 VOTE.
A LITTLE CLOSER THAN IT HAS BEEN
TRADITIONALLY.
BUT WE HAD
OBVIOUSLY SOME TURN
OVER, BUT STILL THE SENATE
REMAINING SUPPORTIVE
OF CASINOS.
WE STILL DON’T KNOW HOW THIS
WILL BE RECEIVED IN THE HOUSE,
WHICH HAS TRADITIONALLY BEEN
THE
ROCK AGAINST WHICH THIS CONCEPT
HAS BROKEN.
BUT AT THIS POINT THAT BILL IS
HEADED OVER TO THE HOUSE.
