3-alarm hotel fire broke out in Wakiki Monday night


ROSS: AN INVESTIGATION CONTINUES THIS MORNING… AFTER A HOTEL FIRE IN WAIKIKI. IT BROKE OUT LAST NIGHT AT THE WAIKIKI BEACHCOMBER HOTEL ON KALAKAUA AVENUE. KRISTINE: DALLIS ONTIVEROS JOINS US LIVE FROM THE SCENE WITH MORE. DALLIS ONTIVEROS: ON AUGUST 5, 2019, AT 8:36 P.M. THE HONOLULU FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDED WITH 15 UNITS STAFFED WITH 57 PERSONNEL TO A HOLIDAY INN BEACHCOMBER HOTEL LOCATED AT 2300 KALAKAUA AVENUE. THE FIRST UNIT ARRIVED AT 8:46 P.M. TO FIND A 25-STORY HOTEL WITH NO SIGNS OF SMOKE OR FIRE FROM THE EXTERIOR OF THE BUILDING. PERSONNEL ESTABLISHED COMMAND, SECURED A WATER SOURCE AND INVESTIGATED FURTHER. FIRE FIGHTERS FOUND FIRE ELEVATORS INOPERABLE AND CONTINUED THEIR LOCATING THE FIRE NEAR A STORAGE ROOM ON THE 14TH FLOOR. THERE WAS A FIRE SPRINKLER ACTIVATION THAT CONTROLLED THE FIRE AND KEPT IT FROM SPREADING. THE FIRE WAS BROUGHT UNDER CONTROL AT 9:08 P.M. AND EXTINGUISHED AT 9:13 P.M. IT WAS REPORTED THAT OCCUPANTS FROM UNIT 1417 REQUESTED ASSISTANCE TO EVACUATE BUT WERE DIRECTED TO SHELTER IN THEIR UNIT BECAUSE THE FIRE WAS CONTROLLED BY THE WERE SO NONCHALANT THIS IS SERIOUS BUSINESS WE SAW THE SMOKE WE HEARD THE SPRINKLERS ON WE RAN DOWN THE STAIRS WE WERE CERTAIN IT WAS ON FIRE AND THEY WEREN’T TAKING IT SERIOUS SO I CALLED 911 AND HE INSTRUCTED ME TO GO BACK UP AND TELL THEM TO GIVE AN EVACUATION ORDER I TALKED TO BATTALION NUMBER 2 I THINK ROSS: VIDEO OF A SUSPECT WANTED FOR
