Can You Count Cards At Online Blackjack?

Can You Count Cards At Online Blackjack?

– With the proliferation
of online casinos and live
dealer Blackjack, can you
beat Blackjack for real money
from the comforts of your own home?
I’m going to answer that in this video.
(upbeat music)
This is one of the most
common questions I get asked,
and it’s typically from
someone that’s new to
Blackjack and card counting,
and they’re thinking
how great would it be to
beat Blackjack from home
in my sweatpants, and so I
wanna break down the math
behind counting cards at an online casino.
In order for a game to be
profitable to a card counter,
there is a series of
conditions that you need.
First off, you need rules
that make the house edge
small enough that you can beat the game.
Secondly, you need good
enough deck penetration
which means that they’re
going to deal enough
cards before they shuffle
that card counting
is even effective. Third, you’re going
to need to be able to play
enough rounds per hour
and enough hours to
make it worth your time.
So starting with the
rules, at best you’re going
to find average rules but not good rules
in an online casino, but the
second issue is the big one,
the deck penetration.
You’re going to typically
find two types of games for
online live dealer Blackjack.
The first one, they’re going
to shuffle after every round.
For a card counter, that
is an instant killer.
There is no way you’re going to
beat it if they shuffle every round.
The next option is going to be where they
deal about four of eight decks.
They shuffle right in the middle, and
again that’s just gonna kill
your opportunity for EV.
I’ll give you the actual
numbers in a few minutes,
but the third one is a killer too.
And that’s the number of
hands you can play per hour.
Typically, these tables are really full,
and a card counter friend of mine, he
was telling me he tried
it just out of curiosity,
and he kept tracking. He was
getting 20 hands per hour.
Now, if you’re playing
at a live casino, you
should be playing at least
100 rounds per hour, and
if you’re playing just you and the dealer
you could be playing 200
or upwards of close to 300
rounds per hour. So,
you’re going to be playing
average rules at best
very slowly with deck
penetration so bad I would never recommend
someone play that at any casino.
And just for the heck of
it, I ran some computer
simulations of the best
game I could find, which
was four out of eight
decks dealt of a eight-deck
average rules game and
what I found is that with
a 250,000 bankroll, you
could make about $50
an hour if you could
play 100 rounds per hour.
Now at 20 rounds per hour,
you’re going to be making
about $10 an hour with
a $250,000 bankroll.
To compare that, you can be making
$100 an hour or more
with a $50,000 bankroll
in real casinos, and
that’s if you can even
get any time in at these online casinos.
I’ve also heard that
their counter measures are
very proactive, meaning if they suspect
you of card counting they’re going to
kick you off their online casino.
To contrast that, I’ve
got dozens of friends
that are professional card counters that
are making six figures
in real life casinos.
And that might sound discouraging because
you want to be able to do this from home
in your sweatpants, but
I don’t know a single
legitimate card counter that is trying
to beat online casinos.
The playing conditions
are just too poor to be worth your time.
But don’t just take my word for it.
I emailed Richard Munchkin who is
a member of the Blackjack Hall of Fame,
one of the most famous advantage players
of all time and a really nice guy,
and I asked him, “Hey, what’s your
opinion of counting
cards at online casinos?”
And this is what he said.
Anyone who has taken the time to learn
to count cards can find far better
opportunities than are available online.
I see counting those games as an
enormous waste of someone’s time.
But fear not, card counters.
Even though online casinos are
huge wastes of your time,
card counting in real life casinos
is as viable as ever.
The reality is there are more
casinos in the United States than
any time in history.
Here’s what Blackjack legend Tommy Hyland
had to say when he was
asked this question.
– If I had to say when would be
the best time to play Blackjack
I might say it was now.
You know, it’s only my opinion.
Other people say it was definitely
better in the old days, but I think
this is a real good time
to make money at Blackjack.
– So if you want to
make money at Blackjack
do not play on the online casinos.
It’s a huge waste of your time at best.
But learn how to count cards, take it
into the real casinos, and
take the casino’s money.

  1. Nice one! The simulation results will come in handy when I get asked if online BJ is beatable. Your video will act as a reference point for years to come, Colin! Thanks.

  2. I have a live dealer game plays about 120 rounds per hour, I can get in or out at any point and spread to 3 hands (also at any time), penetration is an UNBELIEVABLE 7.5 to 7.75 out of 8 decks, H17 DAS with the only downer is 6/5 BJ.

Min bet is $5 max is $175 and I'm able to play 40 deviations.

    How beatable is this Collin?

  3. I tried to count a shoe on a video from youtube. The end of the deck was like (-1) or (+1).You can count it but yes the penetration is bad but I did see some guy get lucky. Not naming his channel but he was making outrageous bets and winning.Bets a staunch counter would never make in a negative shoe.
But yes you are right about the penetration, very poor.Even a dealer said so to a player chatting with him during a game.

  4. Hey Colin it is William here. In online play, I would say there is no need to do card counting such as hi-lo. You could just calculate to the exact advantage/disadvantage by recording each card that is been dealt. After all, the whole point of having a point system (which is an approximation) is that adding/subtracting precise decimals is too difficult in live casino environment.

But like you said, because of the poor penetration it still won't be much profitable

  5. Casino near me has single deck game with 3:2. But the dealer deals the players cards faced down in table. It makes card counting so difficult and confusing. Any Tips how to get count cards easier in such situations?

  6. Thoughts on Spanish 21, everyone? It has MUCH better rules than the six deck tables I've been playing at. I don't take a ton of money to generate a significant amount of EV. I usually take about $100 and back count. I get in a table when the count is really good, then use basic/index/illustrious 18 strats to determine my plays and about 4 out of 5 times I'll make about $40 or $50.

But in Spanish 21 (which uses CSMs), I've been able to win about the same amount just playing basic strategy and using their rules (can double after hit, early surrender, surrender after double, Aces get more than one card when split) to ensure I have a damn good hand against the dealer's upcard. Blackjacks in Spanish 21 pay 3:2 just like regular blackjack does as well.

Thoughts anyone? Back counting is cool, but I've been enjoying Spanish 21.

  7. Hey guys i’m having a constent problem where i might need your help… i live on the french riviera i can not find a casino without a CSM… does anyone know where i could find one ?

  8. i made 1,14 million form my bed in 3 days i turned my broke ass in to a milioner at 18 yers off age, but i have been playing for 1/2 of a year and, every day nearly, so you count need to count cards just play and get good at it, but the huge risk is mis clinking online….. i lost 1 million i short i was beting 100k but i had hit 6 in sted of 5 so i hush the 100k chip and acedently bet a million and ofcors i lost it all…… so i was a milioner in 3 days win and los whit the same soul

  9. I've found a single deck game online. Gonna check it out tomorrow and let you know if it's worthwhile

  10. This guy be like if u start with 250k…. dude thats a house calm down now cant i just start with 100 hahahaha

  11. i do not see how is it possible to play more than 20 hands per hour … when average game could be anywhere between 3-5 minutes

  12. i really dont know if its the luck or not but i made 120 euros in 5 minutes online and i started with just 10 euros ! anyway i cashed out and said bye bye !! but that was really good profit in 5 min

  13. To go along with what Fadel said, idk if I 100% buy into this. I’ve been card counting and being extremely patient for maybe 10 days now on Bovada’s live dealer BJ. At this point in time, I’ve won $800. This all came from mostly betting $10 per hand, with the occasional $15-$30 bet. Of course if I increased my bets to begin with, I’d be over $1000. Idk if you still consider this luck, but I’m starting to think that how I’ve been approaching these hands has been a big reason why I’m up this much. Now, I’m sure $800 is nothing to you guys, but for someone who’s in his 20s, and currently has a full time job, $800 is a nice chunk of change.

  14. Couldn't you get a much bigger advantage at the ONLINE (not live action) casinos using a hidden secret computer? Yes it's illegal but how are they going to distinguish it from card counting if they can't see you in person, let alone prosecute you for it?

  15. Please make a video on avoiding detection. It's seems pretty obvious to casino staff if we're consistently sitting out several hands throughout a shoe. ( especially at beginning of shoe) And also during team play it seems obvious when the "high roller" partner jumps in and out only playing a few hands. Or always bets big at the end of the shoe. I can't imagine the pit bosses don't notice that.

  16. Thanks for your videos, in the real casino of my city (France) they shuffle when there are 4 decks on 6 remaining or more, but never less… Do you think it's possible to win in these conditions? Thanks

  17. I actually just played online and the dealer got 2 back 2 back blackjack and had 18-21 the whole time never busted (bitcoin casino)

  18. I've tried on a couple different online casinos (im a sports better and will play sometimes during the game when it's not a good one) and everything he said is 100% correct. deck penetration sucks, takes forever to deal, etc. and i personally hate it when people are jumping in and out of decks and online ppl are jumping in and out like crazy

  19. Man i just want to thank you. It took me about 3 sessions of 20 minutes practice and i can count now with my eyes closed. Ive had great success and turned 1k into 4k literally all online. Ive noticed when i get a good count i have about 2-5 hands before they reshuffle their 8 decks. I cant wait to go to a real casino and god bless you man! ps. im a 10k sub youtuber that teaches people how to trade crypto. So from a fellow youtuber, i salute you and thank you for your content man , i now have another tool in my arsenal for the gains

  20. Short one…playing from home .. online….dont spend any money….going out…or other city…u need to buy, room to hotel ETC ! so u make 100$ per hour but plus all the thing u need to pay for u going away….its the same sht !

  21. Some online Casinos don`t even use decks, they have a randomizer that spits out every card at exactly the same possibility each time, or even at a rate fudged to increase the House-edge .

  22. wouldn't it be quite possible to just make a program that records the action on live online blackjack, sniffs the cards live and calculates the best plays? I'm no programmer, but it seems within the realm of what's possible these days.

  23. Wasted a whole bunch of time and money playing perfect strategy last night online. So happy i checked out your counting videos! so much easier than I expected. And now I feel confident in the decision to leave Blackjack alone online. Great free value you're giving on here, much appreciated!

  24. So if the penetration at mid shoe hinders card counters so greatly why don’t casinos no all black jack tables in the world do it if they need a way to beat the counters surely if they all did it counting cards will become completely redundant

  25. I THINK IT IS TIME YOU EXPLAIN EVERYTHING 1 i live australia casino now in melbourne have changed the rules ,,,,, fully automatic continuous card counting machines 2 they stand off on 22 some tables cant double down and more

  26. You only cover live dealer on line blackjack. What about single player no dealer on line blackjack. Has anybody run a computer simulation? You can play 300 hands an hour .

  27. Online sites are so rigged. They're not regulated like normal casinos so they can get away with a lot of $hit. Plus they use software that lets them see what cards come next so they have people (bots I call them ) who will play stupid so the cards favour the dealer/house.

  28. I should have came here first…I was playing on a online cassino called bovada, and they pretty always win….they shuffle on a half deck and change dealers every 30 mins

  29. 0:26 is there something wrong with sweatpants are you supposed to wear jeans or something to a casino is this a new policy?
