Well, after receiving a top 10 preseason
ranking, the Cass Lake-Bena boys basketball team had struggled just a
little bit out of the gate thanks to some injuries to key players and young
players figuring out their rules. But expect the Panthers would be right back
in the hunt at the end of the season as they look to make it back to the state
tournament. Last year without saying, should’ve been ours, and just ready to get it this year. Just last season, the
Panthers finished their year one game short of the state tournament,
falling to Ada-Borup in the section championship. If Cass Lake-Bena is going to
make it back to state like they did two years ago,
senior standout Jarell Jacobs is going to have a lot to do with it. his scoring
prowess is always a point of emphasis for opposing defenses. Surrounding him
this year is a handful of returning seniors as well as some eighth graders
and a freshman who will have to step up big for this team to succeed. Just trust
my teammates, they’re young like I said, they can do it, or else our coach wouldn’t
have them up there, playing with us. Just trust. We got a lot of mistakes, a lot of
a lot of turnovers and stuff like that, but we knew we expected that, it’s
just that if we can turn that around and by the end of the season and stuff, I
think we’re gonna be okay. Work on our defense is kind of slacking right now.
But our offense stay disciplined as a team, and get fast-break points, or not really getting fast-break points this year.
Panthers will be back in action on Friday as they take on BOLD in the
Granite City Classic.
