Could sports gambling come to California?

LAIN. WALTER: RIGHT NOW JUST 4 STATES ALLOW SPORTS BETTING, ENTICING CALIFORNIANS TO VISIT NEVADA WHICH IS ONE OF THEM. BUT THAT COULD SOON CHANGE.>>THAT IS PLUS ONE AND A HALF. WALTER: — >>WE DO HAVE SPORTS WAGERING. WALTER: IT IS ESTIMATED BETWEEN 150 — 20 TO 40 BILLION GOING ON RIGHT HERE IN CALIFORNIA. THAT IS A LOT OF MONEY THAT THE STATE IS MISSING OUT ON. REGULATING THE INDUSTRY COULD BE A GAME CHANGER.>>AS HIGH AS $100 MILLION TO $200 MILLION A YEAR. WALTER CALIFORNIA IS NOT THE ONLY STATE LOOKING TO CASH IN. NEW JERSEY SUED. SOME LEGAL ANALYSTS BELIEVE THE MAJORITY OF THE SUPREME COURT JUSTICE AGREED. THE COURT IS EXPECTED TO RULE ON THAT THIS NUMBER. IF NEW JERSEY WINS, IT WOULD BE ABLE TO MOVE FORWARD.>>HAVING MORE ACCESSIBLE BRING MORE PROBLEM GAMBLERS. WALTER: SHE SAYS MAKING IT LEGAL WILL LEAD TO HIGHER ADDICTION RATES IN MAKE IT HARDER FOR THOSE IN RECOVERY.>>MORE MONEY WILL HAVE TO GO TO TREATMENT. WHAT DOES IT MEAN FOR THE PEOPLE WHO CANNOT CONTROL THEMSELVES AND CANNOT DO IT RECREATIONALLY? WALTER: ANY CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT WOULD NEED TO MOVE THROUGH THE CALIFORNIA ASSEMBLY AND SENATE, AND THEN BE APPROVED BY THE GOVERNOR.
