So if you were to match all six numbers tonight,
what you would have to do, is you would have
to dial in to our Lottery lines, and you would
be advised that you would be contacted within
24 hours to go through the process with a
The process is the same regardless of whether
or not we pay people in their homes or in
the Winners’ Lounge.
It’s just the choice of the winner really.
Most people feel more comfortable in their
homes, but some people either don’t want
us in their homes, because perhaps people
don’t know, or they just want a day out
and they want to have a look around the headquarters
of the National Lottery.
We do get requests for cash, but they can’t
have any cash.
Once we’ve seen them the money is in their
bank account within 48 working hours.
If the winner wants it that quickly, they
don’t always want it that quickly.
Actually with larger wins, £1 million, we
have relationships with all the major banks
and some banks have teams of people that just
deal with lottery winners.
Sometimes we have to sort of really make people
understand just the enormity of their wins.
We had someone the other day who won multi-millions
of pounds and the only way that I could get
him to understand, we worked out the value
of the new car he just bought and divided
that by his win and worked out how many hundreds
of those cars he could buy and then he realised.
But actually the most important part is checking
on them and really making sure they have all
the support in place.
