Five-Card Draw Poker : Five-Card Draw: Good Starting Hands

O.k, let’s talk about good starting hands
for the game of five card draw. I’m just going
to throw out a random hand and tell you if
I think it’s good. This is random, and you
know what, this is not a good hand. There’s,
what you’re looking for is connectivity, and
you do not have it here. So, I’m going to
build a hand that would be awesome to start
with. And, here’s one, here’s one, let’s say
you look at your hand, and you have two pair
and an off card. That would be a good starter.
Its two relatively high pair, they’re both
above the middle, pair of Jacks, pair of nines,
and a deuce. You’re going to throw the deuce
away, and hope to catch another Jack or another
nine for a full house. Another good hand would
be if you had, if you look down and you actually
see a flush, this happens from time to time,
it won’t happen to you a lot. But, sometimes
you’ll look at your hand and you’ll have five,
two, and Ace high flush. That’s awesome! That’s
called a pat hand. You’ll be able to bet that
before the draw cause you don’t want to let
people see the draw cheaply. You’ll bet that
before the draw and then you’ll see how much
money you can make out of the pot, cause in
most cases you’re going to win. Now, hands
are typically won, pots are typically won
by two pair, or three of a kind. Those are,
those are good hands that can take down a
five card draw hand. So, if you can, if you
get say a pair of Aces and a high card, then
you can throw away these two cards and hope
to catch another Ace, or another King to take
down the hand. So, that’s what you’re looking
for, you’re looking for some connectivity,
you’re looking for a high pair, you’re looking
for two pair, those sorts of things. Don’t
play too many long draws. Open end to straight,
o.k, flush o.k, but not what we call a gut
shot. Those are good starting hands, right
there.
