House approves bill to aid casino bid by Massachusetts tribe

Leslie, Eyewitness News.” (MM) A CASINO UPDATE. THE U-S HOUSE PASSED A BILL TODAY THAT WOULD CLEAR THE WAY FOR THE MASHPEE WAMPANOAG TRIBE TO BUILD A HUGE NEW GAMING FACILITY IN TAUNTON. THE BILL– WOULD PUT 321 ACRES OF LAND IN FEDERAL TRUST FOR THE MASHPEE… SETTLING A LONG DISPUTE IN FAVOR OF THE TRIBE. THE MEASURE HAS PIT RHODE ISLAND LAWMAKERS AGAINST THEIR COLLEAGUES FROM MASSACHUSETTS — DUE TO FEARS A NEW TRIBAL CASINO WOULD JEOPARDIZE REVENUE FROM TWIN RIVER. [“hr312 would reverse a federal court ruling, undermine the indian reorganization act, ignore us supreme court ruling and reject the 2018 decision by the us department of the interior and most perniciously it’s a special deal, for a single tribe and that’s just wrong”] [“it’s about doing the right thing, it’s about taking a tribe that through it’s whole history has lost all of its land even though it did occupy that land where it is in taunton and where it is now”] (MM) BUT THE CASINO IS STILL FAR FROM A DONE DEAL.. THE MASHPEE BILL FACES UNCERTAIN PROSPECTS IN THE REPUBLICAN CONTROLLED SENATE. PRESIDENT TRUMP CAME OUT PUBLICLY AGAINST THE TRIBE LAST WEEK.
