My name is Ade Akande and I’m a volunteer for Active Communities Network. I come from England, London, Southwark. I always said that I wouldn’t change where I grew up. I wouldn’t change what I went through. My greatest achievement is probably just not dying early or not going to prison. I had a friend going to prison for a long time. I had a friend dying. When a friend dies, you can either do two things. You can go around, start killing everybody, going into a madman or you can just be successful. In the beginning, it was just about the football. Growing up I never had it planned to be a coach or volunteer. So I got given the opportunity and I kind of took it. It was the coaches and the staff at Active Community that actually saw these attributes in me and that I’ll be good at it. I think sometimes you got to earn it from kids. Kids don’t really just give their respect to anybody. Whatever you wanna do, whatever you see, put your hundred percent in it and just do it. Organisations like that are really important, because they’re doing Sport for Good. You push us to put our personalities out there.
