Learn to Play Blackjack from a Dealer : Dealer Reaches 17 Rule in Blackjack

Now we’re going to be talking about another
rule, it’s the seventeen rule. Here’s
a seven and a ten, we have an ace with a six.
There are two types of seventeens, there’s
the hard seventeen, which is any seven and
any ten; jacks, queens, kings or tens. Then
we have something called the soft seventeen,
which is any ace with any six, which is seventeen
or also, as I said, since aces are worth one
or eleven, this also could be a seven. Since
it’s not completely seventeen yet, since
it could be a seven, this is called a soft
seventeen. When you have seventeen for a dealer,
the dealer must take a hit, or another card.
But before I show you that, when you go up
to a table, on the felt, it will show you
the dealer, and the players, if the dealers
stay on all seventeens, this includes the
hard seventeen and the soft seventeen. Or
it might say, dealer only stays on hard seventeens,
and hit soft seventeens. And you can decide
if you want to play at that table. So let’s
say we have to hit a soft seventeen which
is two cards and you can only have soft seventeen
ones, let me take a card, or a hit. Ah, we
have an ace, which is worth one or eleven,
but here we’ll make it a one, because now
the dealer has ace and six, seventeen, one
is eighteen. So now they have a good hand.
Again, the same rules apply, if the dealers’
card was higher, and they busted and had more
than twenty-one that would again be called
a bust.
