Lottery Day | Director Lili-Anne Brown

“Lottery Day” is about family
of choice and about how we take care of, or sometimes fail to
take care of, one another and ourselves, especially around loss
or grief. The woman at the center of the
story, Mallory, has undergone a loss and she is picking herself back
up with the help of her family of choice, who are the people
around her in the community of Rightlynd. We are looking for ways to connect
to each other. Increasingly, as the world feels
smaller, the more social media pervades our days and our waking
hours, we’re looking for ways to connect. And yet, so many times
we feel so divided. So I think, speaking to the denizens
of Rightlynd, just watching some people fight for their
community, fight for their family, fight for themselves, fight for their
love and friendship, and fight for each other: it’s all of those things. I want to bring the audience into that
and I want them to really feel like they’re at this cookout.
