Lottery dollars help to build new Jones County school

One word to describe Jones County is close-knit. They care about each other and they care
about what’s going on in the community. They care about what’s going
on with their kids, and I love it. Jones County, I think it’s one of the
best kept secrets in the state. We’re a small, rural county, but great
things are really happening for kids. This is not something that we’ve just started. We’ve been wanting a new school for 30 years. So the new school, I think, is exciting and
interesting because we’re really trying focus on get
kids ready for the 21st century, because it will
be a state-of-the-art building. But the most important piece is how
are we going to fund a new school? We do not, as a county, generate enough tax
base to accumulate enough funds to make that happen. We are currently in the process of building
a $46M project. A third of that is coming from NC Lottery funds. Without that opportunity,
it wouldn’t be possible. I can’t wait to see the emotions when
those students walk into that school.
