If I was given a thousand pounds of National Lottery funding to use in my community what would I spend it on? I love my local library and with a thousand pounds we could put on so many more incredible events here. Shhhh! Renting a space where people with dementia can be surrounded by memorabilia which can trigger really powerful emotions in them. What about hiring a llama to take into local schools? Give the kids an experience they’ll never forget. We’re so proud of our neighbourhood we’d use the money to throw a big old party to bring everyone together. How amazing would it be to put it towards getting a wheelchair lift fitted in my local Dial-a-Ride’s mini-van? Going to my first Writers Workshop in my local library inspired me to become an author! Shhh! As you can see I’m a bit of a hoarder so I’ve lots of bits to donate! I got an old ration book, gramophone a bowler hat… Some of them would have never even seen a llama before, can you imagine their faces? What a great chance to meet all our neighbours, even the folks that find it hard to get out! An old pipe, a hand grenade, a mangle, a trombone… If kids are smiling, their parents are smiling it’s contagious! Inspiring someone gives them a purpose that can enrich us all! The youngsters could get involved and bring the generations together. It’s a full-on celebration to break down the barriers. It’s all about connecting people and including everyone. Your community isn’t just where your house is… …it’s so much more… …it’s like pieces of a puzzle… …together they make a bigger picture. Everyone has the same goal we’re all working towards the same thing. A caring, sharing community. We can all make a difference together!
