Menominee Still Pushing for Casino 10pm 2-17-2015

IN OUR CONTINUING COVERAGE…THE
MENOMINEE TRIBE
ISN’T TAKING ‘NO’ FOR AN ANSWER.
THEY ARE STILL PUSHING TO MEET
WITH GOVERNOR WALKER–EVEN
THOUGH HE SAYS HE WON’T CHANGE
HIS MIND ABOUT A CASINO PROPOSAL
IN KENOSHA. NBC 15’S KRISTIN
MAZUR IS HERE
WITH THE LATEST WEIGH IN FROM
BOTH PARTIES.
IT’S BEEN A BACK AND FORTH
SITUATION.
GOVERNOR WALKER SAYING NO TO THE
CASINO–
THEN THE TRIBE SAYING THEY’D
HELP PAY FOR A NEW MILWAUKEE
BUCKS ARENA–IF WALKER WOULD
CHANGE HIS MIND.
AGAIN–WALKER SAYING NO. THE
TRIBE–AGAIN NOT GIVING UP.
“WE’RE HOPING FOR ANOTHER BRIGHT
RESULT IN 2015.”
AND HOPING FOR A CHANGE OF
HEART–
THE COLD WEATHER ISN’T STOPPING
THE MENOMINEE TRIBE
IN ITS FIGHT FOR A CASINO IN
KENOSHA.
OUT TO PROVE TO GOVERNOR WALKER
THAT THEY’RE WILLING
TO GO THE EXTRA MILE TO GET THE
PROJECT DONE…
DOZENS OF MEMBERS OF THE TRIBE
ARE CURRENTLY ON A
150 MILE TREK TO MADISON– THE
END GOAL–TO MEET WITH
WALKER AND DISCUSS THE CASINO
TOMORROW.
A DISCUSSION WALKER HAS ALREADY
SAID IS POINTLESS
“THE FACTS ARE CLEAR. PEOPLE CAN
DISAGREE ABOUT
IT.” WALKER HAS ALREADY SAID NO
TO THE PROJECT SAYING HE WON’T
CHANGE HIS
MIND– AND THAT THE CASINO WOULD
HURT TAXPAYERS–
“I AS THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE
CANNOT IN GOOD
FAITH MAKE A DECISION THAT WOULD
PUT THE STATE IN THAT
SORT OF FISCAL PERIL.” THE
POTAWATOMI TRIBE ALREADY
HAS A CASINO IN MILWAUKEE. AND A
PREVIOUS COMPACT WITH
THAT TRIBE COULD FORCE THE STATE
TO PAY IT HUNDREDS OF
MILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN POTENTIAL
FINANCIAL
LOSSES.
“THERE’S A SOLUTION TO EVERY
CONCERN HE HAS.”
BUT–THE MENOMINEE SAYS WITHOUT
THE CASINO–IT’S THEIR
TRIBE THAT WOULD BE IN PERIL.
“THIS CASINO COULD GO A LONG WAY
TO HELPING BUILD THAT
INFRASTRUCTURE TO HELP OUR YOUTH
AND OUR ELDERS SUCCEED
IN LIFE.” BOTH PARTIES STANDING
THEIR
GROUND– BOTH HOPING THE OTHER
WILL
STAND DOWN.
TOMORROW AT NOON INSIDE THE
CAPITOL ROTUNDA, A RALLY
WILL BE HELD WITH REMARKS–FROM
MENOMINEE
TRIBE. STATE LEGISLATORS AND
REPRESENTATIVES FROM OTHER
WISCONSIN TRIBES ARE ALSO
EXPECTED TO BE THERE. WALKER CAN
LEGALLY CHANGE
HIS MIND BEFORE A DEADLINE ON
THURSDAY.
