New Bird On Ocean City’s Boardwalk Ruffling Some Feathers

OF SLAPPING TARIFFS ON U.S. AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTS. TOM HANSEN, CBS NEWS, NEW YORK. THERE’S A NEW BIRD ON THE BOARDWALK OF OCEAN CITY AND IT’S RUFFLING FEATHERS OF LOCAL SEA GULLS THAT HAVE BECOME PESTS. Reporter: THERE’S A NOTICEABLE DIFFERENCE IN JUST HOW MANY SEAGULLS ARE OUT HERE ON THE OCEAN CITY BOARDWALK. THEY’RE NOT A WELCOME VISITOR ON THE BOARDWALK. THEY HAVE BECOME A NUISANCE AND IN SOME CASES AGGRESSIVE. WHEN PEOPLE WALK BY I CAN SEE THEM GET DIVE BOMBED. THEY’RE ATTACKING PEOPLE AND GETTING FOOD IN STUFF. Reporter: THERE’S A NEW BIRD IN TOWN, WORD IS SPREADING QUICKLY. THIS IS BLACKBERRY, A 3-YEAR-OLD FALCON WITH EAST COAST FALCONS. SO FAR SO GOOD. JUST HER PRESENCE HERE IS GOING TO MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE. WHEN SHE STARTS FLAPPING HER WINGS IT DOES NTD TAKE LONG. EAST COST FALCONS WILL BE IN OCEAN CITY ON THE BOARDWALK UNTIL THE END OF THE MONTH TRYING OUT ITS PILOT PROGRAM. FALCON IS THE ONLY ONE BEING TRAINED BUT VISITORS MAY SPOT AN OWL OR ONE OF FOUR HAWKS. WE TRICK THEM PUT ANOTHER BIRD IN AND ANOTHER BIRD AND ANOTHER BIRD. THEY GET TIRED OF RUNNING FROM THEM. Reporter: THE BIRDS ARE TRAINED TO HARASS THE SEAGULLS BUT NOT KILL THEM. EAST COAST FALCONS IS HOPING THEY STICK AROUND. WE’RE TRAINING THE SEAGULS THEY SHOULDN’T BE HERE. THEY SHOULD BE EATING CLAMS AND CRABS. Reporter: THE PROBLEM BECAME MORE SEVERE ONCE VISITORS STARTED TO FEED THE SEAGULLS. THE CITY IS REMINDING FOLKS NOT TO FEED THEM AND THE FALCON MAY START FLYING TOMORROW ONCE SHE’S
