New law allows Rockford to raise taxes on video gambling machines

ILLINOIS LAW… COULD HELP THE CITY OF ROCKFORD BALANCE ITS BUDGET. EYEWITNESS NEWS IS KEEPING YOU CONNECTED TO THE CAPITOL. THE LEGISLATION ALLOWS ROCKFORD TO RAISE LICENSE FEES FOR VIDEO GAMING MACHINES. MAYOR TOM MCNAMARA CALLS THE MOVE NECESSARY BECAUSE OF THE CITY’S STATUS AS NON-HOME RULE. THAT MEANS THE CITY NEEDS STATE APPROVAL TO RAISE FEES. CURRENTLY NON- HOME RULE CITIES CAN’T CHARGE MORE THAN 25-DOLLARS A YEAR FOR THOSE VIDEO GAMING LICENSES. WITH THE CHANGE ROCKFORD CAN NOW CHARGE UP TO 250- DOLLARS. THE LEGISLATION TAKES EFFECT RIGHT IMMEDIATELY. ((ERIC)) ILLINOIS IS EXPANDING THE STATE’S MEDICAL MARIJUANA
