Plowing Snow WITH A TANK!

Plowing Snow WITH A TANK!

All right, so this is called a DTV shredder
And it was actually invented by a friend of mine named Ben Gulak who at nineteen invented a self-balancing electric unicycle
Shortly after moved on to the shredder. He’s won numerous design awards, and now he’s studying at MIT
Anyway, it’s basically a tank scooter as you can see but the beauty is it fits right in between snowboarding and dirt biking
And that’s because it’s all-terrain and can be used in any season from winter to summer and everything in between!
To steer you actually lean on the board, and then you’ve got your acceleration and the brake in the handles
Anyways, you guys know that we live in Canada and we get a ton of snow
So we thought it would be a cool project if we were able to turn this into our own personal tank treaded snow plow
Yeah locks oh we’re already recording
All right, so before we start
Let’s get the shredder up on the table so we can really see
How we’re gonna do this and as you can see it’s very light
Perfect
All right, so we got one standard snow shovel pre disassembled
And now we just have to figure out how to attach this to here all right so the nice thing is this already has some
Nice mounting points right on here. I don’t know if there’s actually any official accessories for this thing, but this is gonna work
Just fine for us to mount on the snow plow
All right, so let’s grab some steel and make a weldment to attach these points
Tada
a
Little bit trickier because we actually get a nut inside where the handle in so we’re gonna use this magnet tool
Yeah, I can see that is some precision work right now
Let’s try that again… two hours later
Oh
Let’s try that again two hours later
Alright now we have all the bolts in we can start mounting this to the actual frame of the shredder
Aaand the other side
Now as you can see right now the hinge actually goes too far so it hits this.
So, precision is important. We’re gonna use two by fours to
In the other side
Now as you can see right now the hinge actually goes too far so it hits this so
All right, I got some tension on this
Stop it from going all the way back
Not like I’m trying
If you were to hit something with it mounted rigidly you would just fly over the handlebars, but with these Springs
What happens basically if you hit something hard enough
The reason we have these Springs is instead of mounting it rigidly
If you were to hit something with a mounted rigidly you would just fly over the handlebars, but with these Springs
What happens basically if you hit something hard enough?
Now you might have noticed this is just on a pivot point right now
flying off the handlebars
All right
Now you might have noticed. This is just on a pivot point right now
so we want to add some kind of height adjustment so
Depending on how much snow we want to shovel. We need to set the height either up here right in there
You get the idea now to do that
Then mount it to the other side
My hand does not go through this
And we wrap it around the main bar a few times
Then mounted to the other side
And as an echo through this
Just, you know, when you see
This that’s why I’m tightening who knows Ian? who knows?
Really, not your hand but you freak out
This man lets me see
Just have an episode where I start drinking
We’ll find out shortly
When you adjust the angle so does the shovel
Does that look flush?
All right, let’s go! Where’s that pull cord?
When you adjust the angle so does the shovel I
Like flush
All right, let’s go where’d that pull cord?
And that’s why we’re super happy to announce this video’s sponsor: Skillshare

pinch hazard
Then simply adjust the handlebar and now we’re riding high, and you’re higher if you want you’re not snow plowing anymore
So as you can see our suspension system
It can take you leaning forwards brings it close to the ground if you want higher up
Simply adjust the handlebar and now we’re riding high, and you’re higher if you want you’re not snow plowing anymore
How long it’s gonna last but uh
Should be fun!
Let’s take it for a rip, but it is cold outside so I better better better
My hacksmith toque, one of a kind!
It’s a lie two of a kind. I don’t know how long this hat took to make it
Look at all that snow! Three weeks later
All right, so that was a really fun build now
It wasn’t quite as functional as we were hoping but it is a lot of fun to ride
And I’m sure you’re gonna see more of the shredder in future
projects if you guys want more information on that check out Ben Gulak’s site in the description below once again

  1. It work better if you angle it to side.
An had had shove being metal.
With heating pad to stop build up.
But this only thought an I know this is a older video.
But this is the system I have seen on bigger snow plow's.
I love video keep going guy's.

  2. I was thinking you take like a tiny winch and mount it to the handle bars and you press a button and it releases wire that's connected to the snow shovel and you can lower it and raise it by the button on the handle bars

  3. I remember the snow of 2015 it.took us 3 and a half hours to shovel our driveway with 5 people shoveling

  4. Youtube translated it in french automatically so the title translated back to english is this: Plowing snow with a reservoir. I had no idea it meant to be a tank until like the middle of the video. Thanks Youtube.
Note: A tank in french can be both translated to "un char d'assaut" (army tank, etc) or "un réservoir" similar to english and what it showed me, a reservoir.

  5. You are an amazing YouTube and you were starting my thinking capability. Thank you so much keep making your videos and have as much fun as possible!! 🙂
