Southern Family Story Time: Gambling Aunt Georgia

so Georgia she liked to go by the
initials “GA” like the state abbreviation [for]
Georgia and I think I’m probably the
only one who calls her “Gambling Georgia”
but truth be known – that was her thing!
that was her gig!
I remember when her gambling became such a
habit that uncle Ronnie had to cut her
off.
And so she devised a plan so that she
could come up with money with which to
gamble. And it was a little complicated,
it involved social pressure, but she used
the state laws to her advantage.
And she got herself a little piggy bank. What she
had done was get my uncle to corner..um..
[ I don’t know] whether they call it the house, or the floor
manager or the general manager of a
casino, [but] apparently in the state of
Mississippi, if you pointedly ask the
floor manager what is the gaming payout
for blah blah blah machine or table or
whatever, they have to – by law- tell you
what that ratio is. Well, with a slot
machine,
technically, supposedly, according to
Aunt Georgia, if you know what the ratio is
and you know about the machine you can
calculate how much money you need in
order to play that machine until it will
give you a jackpot. A big payout – that was
that was her grift and it was first off…
the casino that she was going to… is one
of those black tie affair places where I
would have difficulty getting an
invitation to even get in.
okay and so let’s say I did somehow
another could finagle an invite or a day
pass into this casino, I would then have
to have to have the two hundred dollars back in
that early 1990s wwith which a single mother could go
play on the gambling machine. So my
boyfriend at the time had gone with me
to visit my aunt and uncle and he had
heard my aunt [talking about her $lot pig$] and he would not stop
until we tried it. And so we did and it
was a bust. We got down there, [to the casino]
my boyfriend and I, and we found the
Dixie Belle. And sure enough, it was one
of those black tie affair places that’s
not gonna let me in the door.
I’m not blue chip enough and so we’re
not doing that. And he convinced me, he
says, “well one casino is the same as
another. you know, this is the same
machine.” But it’s like noooo it’s not the
same. it’s not the same. But he convinced
me to try. So we went to another casino,
found the same type of machine. I put my
two hundred dollars in and within thirty
minutes it was gone. all my money was
gone. Ah and then he convinced me to play
one more time,
so I did it again and this time I got a
up, I think it was up $1,500 – One thousand and five hundred dollars and I should
have stopped then, but I’ll let him talk
into losing it all. [Aunt Georgia] she’d love to play the lottery
oh my god
she would wait until the lottery was
some big number and then she would do
the math and come up with did the best
lottery numbers to play
and she would drive across the state
line into Georgia and we would go to
this drive-thru lottery place that she
knew about in the back boonies somewhere
and then she would drive up and we would
sit here in that drive-thru for two and
a half three hours while she filled out
lottery tickets one after another one
after another she’d be filling out
lottery tickets chain smoking and I’d be
in the backseat about a dying because
she’d hava the air conditioner on & the
windows rolled up and she’s throwing up
those tickets at that drive thru, there a
chain-smoking and I’m “Please back a window down, I’m gonna die!” I hated doing a lottery
run with her ’cause she’s a {censored] smoker – anyway this is
Sunny J Shores and I do appreciate you
tuning in and listening to my story time
about my Aunt Georgia and why I have
lingered and hesitated about going to
play the slot machines. anyway blessings
br. thank you so much for watching
subscribe like share and I’ll see you
again soon thank you
