  1. How many times has a hurricane ravaged that state? Wasn't it Hurricane Sandy the hit when Chris Christie was governor and Obama cleared him for billions of dollars in the recovery? Seems like that would have been a good time to redo these pipes

  2. Odd how this only happens in poor, mostly minority communities.
It's almost as if America treats them like second class citizens. 🤔

  3. U WILL COME 2RELIZE ITS FLINTS ALL OVER THE USA…WERE IS THAT MONEY GOING2??? CLEARLY ITS NOT GOING 2SHALL WE SAY ALL THE PPL.!!! ONE THING 4SURE THAT MONEY COME OUT YOUR PAY CHECK,2KEEP THE COMMUNITY'S WERE U LIVE SAFE,FAIR,4ALL WHO LIVE THERE……FLINT UNITED STATES OF AMERICA…. CM3

  4. what a bunch of dumb assas's, lead pipes were used throughout 1900th century , we are poisoning our selves just as the romans did can not a normal IO person see!

  5. Bernie 2020. We need more justice and progressive change to save the future. Shameful racist classist inaction. They are saying that those people aren’t worth it. Money over people.

  6. I was diagnosed with a rare and deadly kidney problem that appears to be improving as a result of filtering all of the water that comes into my house. The water I drink is further purified with reverse osmosis. I would not trust those dinky PUR filters for anything. They should just give people a countertop reverse osmosis kit. It is the proper thing to do. Each one costs $400. Which is nothing when you consider what kind of healthcare costs these people will be incurring a a result of lead poisoning.

  7. The state and city have been run by democrats. Why don't they talk about this?? I have been to Newark a few years ago. Fcking dump. Best part of New Jersey is I-80 West.

  8. It seems history means nothing. It is said it was the lead pipes that helped defeat the Roman Empire. I can't believe lead would ever be used where it would come into contact with water consumption.

  9. Stalin wrote off whole regions of Russia during their famine, allowing them to starve to death, as they had nothing to offer him that the state couldn’t just take from them anyway. He used it as a political message, to punish those who don’t toe the line. Trump’s goals may well be Nazi, in flavor, but his methods are Stalinist, at every turn. He’s been learning it from Putin.

  10. Please don't be confused by the level of violence and crime you find in your country. Please don't be surprised when you read about another mass shooting or when the number of mass shootings outnumber the days in the year thus far. Lead is a trans generational toxin, passing from mother in infant, you should be more concerned than you are and you should boot a clown who relaxes water and air quality standards and brags on big beautiful coal. https://www.brookings.edu/blog/up-front/2017/06/01/new-evidence-that-lead-exposure-increases-crime/

A recent investigation by Reuters found that lead exposure affects kids in communities across the country — not just in high-profile cities like Flint, Michigan. This is worrisome, because elevated blood lead levels in kids have been linked to an array of developmental delays and behavioral problems. More ominously, this could also increase crime.

Kevin Drum and others have argued that lead exposure caused the high crime rates during the 1980s and early 1990s. There has been suggestive evidence of such a link for decades, though it hasn’t gained much traction in research or policy circles. But the case that lead exposure causes crime recently became much stronger.

    Lead toxicity: a review

Ab Latif Wani, Anjum Ara, and Jawed Ahmad Usmani

    Additional article information

    Abstract

Lead toxicity is an important environmental disease and its effects on the human body are devastating. There is almost no function in the human body which is not affected by lead toxicity. Though in countries like US and Canada the use of lead has been controlled up to a certain extent, it is still used vehemently in the developing countries. This is primarily because lead bears unique physical and chemical properties that make it suitable for a large number of applications for which humans have exploited its benefits from historical times and thus it has become a common environmental pollutant.

Lead is highly persistent in the environment and because of its continuous use its levels rise in almost every country, posing serious threats. This article reviews the works listed in the literature with recent updates regarding the toxicity of lead. Focus is also on toxic effects of lead on the renal, reproductive and nervous system. Finally the techniques available for treating lead toxicity are presented with some recent updates.

Keywords: lead toxicity, lead poisoning, heavy metals, environmental health

  11. Almost every city is like this, we need to stop pushing narrative that its isolated in Flint. Maps of lead in America have already been released years ago. Atmospheric water may be cheaper than new infrastructure, but government needs to be removed if they dont fund it.

  12. Wow, so unfortunate to be stuck leaderless and assaulted by trolls whens Americans should be having constructive discussions about what to do and how. It's true that greed and a failure to teach history led
us to this point in time. The question is: "What will we do about it now?" Now that there are more people, it's financially feasible to tear everything down, start from scratch and resell these "poor" neighborhoods to the extremely rich. That may be the point. "If you don't comply, I'll call you a Socialist." In that scenario, the people, who are poor because they have been shafted their entire lives, continue to be shafted by the rich. The poor are forced to move from established neighborhoods into the next designated "undesirable" neighborhood. The next "undesirable" neighborhood will be labeled as such because the builder got his money out up front using substandard materials, techniques and designs and just because of age. America has no problem accepting new people into her population. Immigrants have always been part of the life blood of this country. However, we can not continue to be a "throw-away" society. We must quickly change our attitudes. We can no longer afford to "throw away" people, property or resources. We currently have an abundance of intelligent, dynamic leaders running for President under the Democratic Party banner. The Republican Party has apparently allowed themselves to be sold to Putin, and Putin had a grudge and has a continuing agenda. We lost our ability to lead ourselves when we allowed Putin to insert his operative into our White House. No matter how extreme Trump has gotten, we have not successfully "checked" him. His one consistency during this presidency has been his failure to claim responsibility for any Americans. He's willing to make meaningless gestures like throwing paper towels at hurricane victims, telling reporters how well loved he is after being locked out of the hospital rooms of shooting victims and failing to take personal responsibility for the endless mass murders throughout our country. The question is: "What will we do about it now?"

  13. Another democratic ran city and state.
Keep voting in the same people and you keep getting the same results.
The reporter clearly said this was a problem for years . Not Trump's fault.
NJ still doesn't allow drivers to pump their own gas. What a joke that state is.

  14. The result of decades of Democrat "leadership" in Americas cities ALWAYS seems to go bad for the people living there.

  15. The next step in voter suppression: using lead laced water to diminish the intellectual capacity of large WRONG colored populations in America and create an irrationale to further diminish already disadvantaged communities.

  16. This is awful really really awful, what's happening to human compation….. even homeless pets are given shelter and food and water. But because of the color of skin there's pure hate! Animals have different colors of hair…. This is sick and disgusting on all levels 😲

  17. The US govt always infringes on poor and working class people's time, even when they're supposedly helping them. They expect everyone who needs these expired water bottles to waste their time in waiting in line. They f***ed up, now they want these citizens to take out precious time out of their work days just to get 2 cases of expired water?

What about the elderlies? Do they expect them to carry those 2 cases back home? How inconsiderate.

  18. Its ok to poison them they are poor and its their fault. The rich need their tax breaks and the military industrial complex has to be fed.

  19. DEMOCRAT RUN STATE ITS THE DO NOTHING CORRUPT DEMOCRATS FAULT NOBODY ELSES FAULT.THATS WHY THOSE CORRUPT DEMOCRATS IN CONGRESS WILL NEVER BE IN POWER AGAIN.THEY DON'T GIVE A DAM BUT THE DEMOCRATS DO GIVE I'LLEGALS FREE EVERYTHING I HOPE IT BOTHERS U THAT DEMOCRATS HATE US.

  20. The problem is the EPA. If they hadn't set max lead levels in drinking water, there would be no problem. It is all Obama's fault.

  21. Just to let you in on a secret, most cities in the US have lead pipes. It's kinda funny to me no one realizes the truth on so many issues, this isn't even a secret. So now we have an official split in how the goverment takes care of private citizens, the poor can't afford to buy water or filters very often. It's time for people to wake up, the country is falling apart and republicans just cut taxes on the rich and businesses while raising middle class taxes to pay for it. 2020 is a time to change, otherwise the US becomes a dead country…

  22. How is this kind of crap even tolerated in any city in America in 2019!?!?

It is morally wrong for the governments—city, state, federal to have permitted this to happen at all and then now, to not bend over backwards taking whatever necessary measures to fix this ASAP is abhorrent.

  23. Can water really expire? They can use that water to wash hands, just don't drink it, but if you're dying … you should probably just drink it.

  24. Slow fuze? "

  26. Who is ruling Newark for decades? Just asking. Here's a hint: 2.6% of the voters are registered as Republicans.

  27. I'm a blessed brown speaking! TRUMP IS FAR FROM A RACISTS! THE MOST RACIST IGNORANT PEOPLE ARE THOSE WHO SEEK TO EXPLOIT PEOPLE OF COLOR BASED UPON THEIR SKIN.

HALLELUJAH THANK JESUS CHRIST FOR TRUE LOVE & LIBERTY AND TO MOVE PEOPLE IN THEIR HEARTS TO SHOW LOVE NOT BASED ON SKIN TONE BECAUSE GOD IS LOVE AND LOVE HAS NO COLOUR!

  28. What the plutocrats do to black folks today they'll do to white folks tomorrow. Because by then it'll be "established practice". Look into PFAS.

  29. Calm your panties 😂

    This is America
The freeways and bridges and streets and pipes all need an Update

60 years of infrastructure not Trumpfh 😂

    #Maga2020 🇺🇸

  30. Don't worry guys trump space force is coming to the rescue LOL – 16 trillion was give to the top 1% in Tax Cuts …. but trump can't afford to bring water to this cities …. black and brown don't mater for racist donald – don't expect help anytime soon

  31. From worst to even worst is America's new norm under Donald Trump! ~ Welcome to your New Fascist America! ~ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=79TRDRPGx34

  32. Okay… Flint… Now Newark… As a person who built homes in 3 different states for over 30 years, I would dare guess that most of the homes in the U.S. are less than 30 years old… and probably older than a year or two. This means that regardless of where you live, the copper pipes in your home were soldered together with LEAD ! !… Yep… every soldered joint has a ring at the joint where what you drink is exposed to lead… And that might sound like a very small amount… just some very small ring… but then multiply that by perhaps hundreds of joints in a home and…. well, you figure it out.

  33. i hate our collective American culture currently: the Obnoxious Aristocracy , the ruined infrastructure, the greed , the inequality, the sheer vulgarity is a testament in malignant malfeasance. There's a Revolution looming- we all know it.

  34. Brian Williams shows a range of skills that are largely reserved for well educated, often well connected individuals: organization and sequencing skills that allow him to rattle off how to mobilize volunteer fire departments to assist in the crisis.

  35. america , the most civilized country in the world ? only for some , perhaps…. the white wealthy ,….but for others it is just various degree's of suffering , whilst white people complain and worry about their own victimization 🙁

  36. a great piece of journalism here by Brian williams highlighting the lack of action for the forgotten ordinary people in america…..you want trump out ? promise and deliver real things that benefit the ordinary people , for this is the reason they don't vote…why should they ? when most of the right and left, just vote on policies that either effect their own tax returns , or problems on the border [sighs] 🙁

  37. politicians cannot provide basic upgrades to infrastructure with All the money they collect? maybe not give multi-trillion dollar tax breaks to the top 1%, and curb those Multi-billion dollar corporate welfare checks to oil/agro/pharma etc etc etc.

  38. Why do people expect the city to give them water? They expect the city to give them food? Clothes? A car? Healthcare? Where does it stop? Think, people…

  39. Flint, Michigan had lead in their water, which is poisonous.Crates of bottled water have been sent by good people, but that is not enough. Newark, New Jersey has the same problem.

  40. Lead paint is dangerous….but water is life sustaining necessity in order to live. VOTE tRuMp OUT…….PLEASE!

  41. Talk to Corey Booker… what did he do to fix this? Since the first sentence of this story is "… that they've known about for years."

  42. Alexander Graham Bell not only paid for but offered work crews to replace the lead pipes. Saying "Dead employees do poor work".

  43. This would be such an easy slam dunk for Trump. Alls he has to do is sign an executive order and move some more military money around and he could solve i this problem in no time, and score re-election points in the process. But wait, that would mean spending money to right a wrong in a liberal state. Never mind.
